"We're #1!"
MIT was named the most visited college/university web site by 4 International Colleges & Universities, a higher education directory.
I have a few theories as to why we elbowed our way to the top of the list:
- OpenCourseWare: MIT courses for free on the web. What's not to love about that?
- Blogs: You're reading one now! We do have others from all corners of the Institute, so you might want to check out the MIT Blogroll.
- MIT News: Everything you want to know about technology, research and MIT. Get the inside scoop before it hits the pages of "Wired."
- TechTV: Did you know that MIT has its own web video service? There's really no way to adequately describe the eclectic mix of videos that are added by the MIT community each day. My personal favorites are the Doc Edgerton high-speed films. There's also a general MIT video gateway.
- MIT's home page: It changes every weekday.
- GAMBIT Game Lab: Games created by MIT students. I'm partial to Shadow Shoppe.
That's not an inclusive list, of course. MIT is such a vibrant, creative place that if you can't find something amazing on our website you're really just not trying. That's more of an opinion, though.

Fantastic! All my months of lurking in the MIT admissions blog have finally paid off.. You're welcome:P
So I went through the MIT blogroll and one thing conspicuously absent was a blog on graduate admissions (although I've been known to trip over elephants and run into the occasional mountain so maybe it's just me). As a prospective grad student, I'd love to find out more about the lives of grad students in MIT, their experiences getting in etc. Any chance you could get some grad students to start blogging here?

I can personally say that I visit multiple times a day simply to see if there are new blog entries, they are all so well written and interesting.

No worries... this time [ominous laugh]
@ stillwaters
Well we do have one Grad Student here, Kim '09. Graduate Admissions are handled by each school, so for now we focus on Undergraduate items on the site. I'm sure the grad school you're interested in would love to hear from you directly. Having prospective students express an interest is sometimes all it takes to get an idea rolling.

I absolutely love the OpenCourseware, it really helps me in all my classes. And the admissions website for MIT really is one of the most user-friendly and comprehensive out there. Great job!

I really love those pictures which appear alternatively everyday in the MIT's page, very cool to me.
Also, the admission blog is something special about MIT that other top Universities don't possess. It's a pity that grad school doesn't really have sth like that anymore. ~.~"
Anyway, Congratulation on getting the #1 rank. I'm not really surprised by this. This blog is wonderful itself no to mention other aspects. ;)

That is really nice, and there is one more reason right here: Television.
I saw a professor from MIT in Weird Connections!! Gecko Adhesive was an amazing discovery. and that, you don't see very often. So, I am back for more by going through blogs and MIT websites.

My F5 is deformed, too. I visit mitadmissions.org almost every hour, since it is on my Opera speed dial :P

I think I'll have to stop refreshing the page, and instead, use it as homepage :D That'll save my poor F5 key.

It is not quite an oversized foam hand, but it is very close
Personally, I think makes a better use of the character.

MIT is so informal, interactive and therefore so amiable

This is the simplest theoretical ascii representation that I can think of that accurately conveys the identity of the object, anyway.....
