(Please note that comments are closed after 30 days to reduce spam.)Congratulations indeed! Maybe you will be on the Rachel Maddow Show now.....she was very enthusiastic about this challenge, and was anxious to see who would win. Certainly impressive, best wishes with finals also.

Quite impressive! Hope DARPA would release everything they learn (after their meeting with teams) about the approaches and strategies used to collect information.

How cool! I signed up to be on your team because I had to travel a bit today...never saw a balloon but it appears from your map that I was within about 15 miles! Congratulations! Yea!!!!!

Oh man, I was watching George Hotz (the iPhone hacker) try to get all of these by commanding masses of Twitterfolk, and I saw MIT win
That was awesome

This is awesome!!! I wish I could've been in SF to see the balloon (40 mi. away, meh)
Did MIT participate in other DARPA challenges (like the urban and grand one involving autonomous vehicles)?

Boo MIT! Nerd Fighters did it for charity! You did it for keeps. Nerd Fighters rule, MIT drools.
Posted by: Eva Creswell on December 7, 2009 01:09 AM
I was actually really hoping that the Nerdfighters would win...they were going to donate all $40,000 to charity, and they're a really strong, awesome community of geeky people who like to talk about really important issues, like homelessness and poverty and political upheaval...
(The Nerdfighters can be found here: http://nerdfighters.ning.com/)
I guess it's cool that MIT won. It would be cooler if the money were going to a good cause, though. I sort of feel like anyone who had the time and money to go around looking for the balloons probably doesn't really need it.

Is it lame if I was rooting for the youtube Nerdfighter group? (http://www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers)
Congrats guys but that WAS for Charity...

MIT is on the yahoo homepage now.though it links to this article:

Posted by: jialing on December 7, 2009 08:05 PM
actually, MIT did say that most of its money would go to charity, but part of the money went to the ppl who found the indivudual balloons. the way MIT set up the search and their ability to find the balloons so fast is a testiment to their capablilities (as well as the power of the internet XD)

CONGRATULATION ON THE VICTORY
it was amazing and unbelievable that you were all able to finish it so fast
i am one of the "MIT dream boys" so if i get it or i don't, i would still like to know how you guys did it
