"Wahoo! MIT takes over Doonesbury!"
For those of you who are closely following the Doonesbury comic strip story... (brush up by checking out Matt's entry #1, entry #2, and entry #3 on it), Alex Doonesbury is officially going to MIT! Look out for her around campus next year...at least in The Tech.
Here's today's Doonesbury:
and see more at Doonesburg@Slate.
The Tech covered this story in June, here are some excerpts:
Alex Doonesbury, the daughter of the main character in Garry Trudeau's popular Doonesbury comic strip, will be coming to MIT next year after the Institute won an online poll that allowed the comic's readers to choose among MIT, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Cornell.
When the poll closed at midnight on May 22, MIT had 48 percent of the total votes, thanks to what the official Doonesbury Web site called "insane, rampant, ingenious, and impressively ruthless" voting. RPI received 32 percent of the votes, and 19 percent of the votes went to Cornell.
Basically, a hacker from Baker wrote up a script in Flash ActionScript in 15 minutes, sent it out to the other Baker residents who all ran it, and then they overwhelmed and crashed the Doonesbury website. So, the IP was blocked and the RPI and Cornell kids complained, but since the rules never explicitly forbid scripts, MIT still won!

Pretty clever. Maybe this will bring some good publicity to the Institute.
