YAYA!!!
Wawa, we are even closer neighbors... I go to Westside here in Houston

Is anyone else having this "zomg sdlkflkjl (hits keyboard) skljaflkdsfa" feeling?!?!!!

Posted by: jl on December 9, 2006 12:40 PM

YAY!!!! CONGRATULATIONS '11s!

Posted by: Christina on December 9, 2006 12:45 PM

I was going to post a comment about "class of 'B" being incorrect, since B is hex for 11, but the actual year is 2011, and it doesn't translate into the same number of digits. But when I actually calculated it, I found that the hex equivalent of 2000 (base 10) is 7D0, which means that 2011 (base 10) would be 7DB (base 16). So congratulations Alex, you were right, and I don't get to give you a hard time about it. =P

Posted by: James Eastwood on December 9, 2006 12:47 PM

AWB, we're neighbors! Where are you from?

Congratulations everyone!!

"zomg sdlkflkjl (hits keyboard) skljaflkdsfa" indeed. A friend of mine that goes to my school got admitted too! Nobody will believe us, HA! Yay MIT! I'm assuming we all played the "Flip through every page of the phone book, e-mail everybody, almost break the cell phone, blog like there's no tomorrow" game, seeing as we're all posting on here right now. I think this a good place to say:

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!1!1!!! GAHH!!!! LOL NO MORE COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAYS!!!1!11!

Posted by: Anonymous on December 9, 2006 12:51 PM

Congratulations everyone! I hope you all join us up here in Cambridge next year (it's really cold, but I swear it's amazing anyway). When I got in EA last year, it was probably the happiest day of my life, so I hope a lot of you are feeling that same euphoria. Go out and enjoy it. Celebrate with your friends! And try not to slack off too much, now that you already know you've gotten in here and it's only December. . . .

I actually knew I would be accepted to the class of 2011 as far back as almost 6 weeks ago when I submitted my EA application. Do you people know that my church has prayed earnestly for me to get in MIT since then?

I am not trying to be religious here, but there is a God Whom I have trusted whole my life opening for me the path He had designed for me even before the founfation of the world!

Thanks to all the admissions officers and stuff, too!!

Any Oregon people? I know of 2. It'd be interesting to see how many were accepted from our humble little state.

Posted by: Snively on December 9, 2006 02:19 PM

Hey everyone! So excited to be accepted - I wasn't sure if I'd be a good fit, but I guess MIT thought I would be.

Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted, I can't wait to meet you all (hopefully) next fall.

I'm from Milwaukee, WI - anyone from nearby? I'm hoping I'm not the only Wisconsinite to get accepted!

Also, anyone on facebook? I vote that we start a "potential MIT '11" group or something so we can get to know each other better! If one doesn't exist yet, I'll start one tonight.

Congratulations again to everyone, I know that it'll be incredible!

P.S. Go Vikings!

Posted by: Ian on December 9, 2006 04:10 PM

I don't think CK meant that as an insult. But thanks for the support Dim and Emily.

Anyway, MIT is definitely one of my top choices. I won't know where I'd like to go until after Admit Weekends in April. But insiders say MIT does a great program with their CPW. So it should be exciting. And it'll be fun to meet you all.

(And CK, how did you know I was homeschooled? AoPS?)

Roseanne: I'm from Hunter, in Manhattan (the place where they lock us up in a windowless brick building and suffocate us intil we go mad :P). I live in Queens though!

Also, I don't think it's going to be a tube again this year; I mean, it was one last year, why would they do that again? (not that I know anything.)

Posted by: Yuri on December 9, 2006 09:25 PM

By the way, what courses are people planning on?
5 - Chemistry

Posted by: Marcella on December 9, 2006 09:31 PM

To Samiur: Haha i'm still giddy

To Marcella: You already got your tube in the mail?? I didn't think the tubes would be mailed out until Dec. 15.

To Bianca: I heard that when we get the acceptance letter in the mail, we get a "fat packet" with info about dorms and stuff (it's not in the tube hehe) haha i can't wait for that packet and my tube to make things more concrete for me!

Yay for getting-in-ness!

Boo for not being able to throw out all my other apps cause I have to wait for financial aid offers and all that stuff.

Any linguistics/bioengineering geeks in the house?

Posted by: Kelly on December 10, 2006 12:22 AM

Kelly: Haha, "getting-in-ness", I like that. And I agree about the ickiness of not being able to forget all other apps cuz of financial aid. I'm thinking about minoring in linguistics...I dunno, I feel like I wanna major/minor in everything at MIT haha

Posted by: Roseanne on December 10, 2006 12:26 AM

Mith,

You are right about my afternoon post. I don't mean anything insult at all by asking if you have decided to go ahead to go to MIT. I heard about you indirectly a lot recently. I am actually thinking to hire you to tutor my younger sibling math for I have heard you tutoring students of Fort Bend ISD. And they all say you are superly super. I also admire your guts to homecshool yourself for high schoo and on, actually I was homeshooled by myself a lot and by my mom a tiny bit. Oh, and my mom says you are a boy with both guts and a good brain. She wonders how your parents can raise you so cool and outstanding.

You will be doing very well along whichever path you choose to take. Please receive my solute!!!

Congratulations to all u guys!!!

i just wanted to let you guys know that there's another local that got in... i live in Norton, MA (about 40 minutes south of boston), and my dad brought me the tube in the middle of my track meet today, and of course, i immediately started jumping up and down, running around to find and tell everyone i knew. needless to say, it took a while for me to calm down lol...brian, we're right in the TVL with you, do you play any sports?

Posted by: Stacey on December 10, 2006 12:58 AM

What is in the tube? Just the poster? I'm in California so I think it'll be awhile before I get mine...

To that question about majors/minors being considered. I am considering as a major: Course 6 (definitely doing this), course 18 (maybe a double), course 9(seems pretty cool), and as a minor course 14. Oh man this is so unreal! I can't wait to see everybody!

Posted by: Phillippe on December 10, 2006 06:56 AM

Hey- Congratulations to all! When you're thinking of a major, don't forget about SHASS (School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences)! I work in grad admin in PoliSci (17)- it's a great department. The undergraduate admin people are fantastic and there's always cookies and candy in the office!

Hey - congrats everyone! When I first read the acceptance letter, I thought maybe there was a computer glitch and it was all a mistake! Yesterday was DEFINATELY the happiest day of my life!!!!! Two of my friends also got in (we all go to the same HS - Ransom in Miami) and we did some major celebrating last night. Anyone else from around the South Florida area? WOW - MIT!!!!!! I'm at the Dolphins/Patriots game now (obviously, a huge Patriots fan).

Posted by: Rosie on December 10, 2006 12:55 PM

Hey Rosie! I'm from Miami. I go to Palmetto. Wow, 3 kids, that's insane. I heard last year that Ransom sends kids to top schools, but 3 in one go to MIT? Very cool!

I'm from topsfield, MA which is 30 min north of boston so i'm pretty psyched to get to go to school in my favorite city ever

Posted by: Jillian R on December 10, 2006 01:45 PM

Hey Veronica! Wheeee. Do you have a facebook? ... there's that WTP 2006 group ... some ME are in it, but I don't think you are. The EECSers started it though so it may have traveled slowly to ME. Anyway yeah, wow, what a summer eh?

And to the deferred - don't worry; RD will be yet another round and if you guys have the initiative to apply early then you are probably up to par for admission! good luck guys!

Posted by: Anne on December 10, 2006 02:00 PM

Jenny- I go to Reservoir (I'm the first one to apply from my school). I actually would have gone to River Hill before redistricting. My sister went there, and one of her best friends from River Hill goes to MIT now.

Posted by: sam on December 10, 2006 02:34 PM

Phillippe - three people got in EA from my school last year. Needless to say, we didn't stop celebrating for a long, long time.

I remember how excited I was when I got in - the smile on my face didn't go away for days. Congratulations again to all of you!

Posted by: Keri on December 10, 2006 02:45 PM

Oh and all the things you dreamed of,
All the visions that you saw,
Well the time is drawing near now,
It’s yours to claim and own!

I absolutely LOVE this song (hey, I'm a Disney dork, and I'm proud of it!).

These lyrics just seem to fit *right now*. I thought I'd post them.

This is definitely exciting to see all of us posting and already finding stuff in common (ok we're all high schoolers I guess it's to be expected..). Out of curiosity, are there any other Jersey-ites (Jersey-ans? Jersey-ooligans?) out there? Trumpeters? Ultimate disc players?

Definitely, everyone hit up the facebook group -- might be easier to track communications once this thread gets crammed.

I would really like to know what you guys think helped you get in that the deferred students can still do to help their applications (is there anything we can still send in to MIT that would help with regular admission?)? Anyone from the admitted category wish to spread your wisdom to us "deferred" students??? :)

Posted by: Anonymous on December 10, 2006 11:03 PM

Anyone else think it's odd that the accepted thread is longer than the deferred one?

Posted by: Bilal on December 10, 2006 11:42 PM

MITES is the Minority Intro to Engineering and Science? I think... it's a summer program at MIT, I looked into it but only got the information for it long after the application deadline, unfortunately.

The admitted is probably longer because the admits are all crazy excited (and probably not planning on doing homework or essays and such for a while, and are thus bouncing around the 'nets), and the deferred may not have thought to come back to the MIT blogs...

Posted by: Grant on December 10, 2006 11:57 PM

I'd just like to point out to everyone...
If you sign in to your myMIT account, there's a new section, with a nifty letter from the Dean of Admissions and a cool guestbook entry system where you can put some info about yourself and a picture for all the other admitted students to see and stuff.

just thought it was cool

go california!

Posted by: Carly on December 11, 2006 02:25 AM

i feel really strange. first of all, because i got denied to the MITES program, but then admitted early action to MIT. secondly because it seems like everyone else went somewhere where getting into MIT was not an unusual thing, and none of the counselors at my high school can remember anyone getting in from here.

wow Mike that's awesome. It's a big deal where I live to get into MIT - all 5 people from our rival school got deferred, and I believe I'm the only one to get in early this year. Last year only two got accepted, but then we also have a lot of top students who apply to places like Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc. and CONGRATS to being the hero of your high school :D

Snively, maybe we're the only two people from Oregon that even applied Early Action.

Yay for MITES rejections, but MIT EA admittances!

Wow, superb feelings it must be to be in your consign guys, limitless congratulations to everyone! I am enormously curious to know if there has been any person from Mexico or Mexican heritage being admitted. To those rejected, the position of a star does not matter, what matters is that it shines everywhere!

Congrats everyone, especially those of you who hung out in the chat room. I hope I get in RD and get to see you all next year =).
Also, to those deferred, don't give up hope!

PS I too was a gymnast, although I don't compete in it anymore. If I get in, though, we can flip together =)

XX such language is not good and I don't really know why you posted that. Please don't do it again so that we can all enjoy ourselves here.
Don't spoil the good mood of the admitted ones.
