"Not here!"

I'm hosed.
I don't have time to write a real entry.
Suffice it to say, I found this video funny.
What happens in this video will not happen in a conversation with any MIT student.
Therefore . . . you should attend MIT.

I remember hearing about this!

Posted by: William Mruzek on March 9, 2009 02:54 PM

Wow, that is truly frustrating....

Posted by: Anonymous on March 9, 2009 02:56 PM

This is hilarious! :)

Posted by: Isra on March 9, 2009 03:06 PM

Wooooow, those people are really dense -.-" I mean, when I was in elementary school, a couple kids in my class my say stupid things like that, but I don't think it ever took me THAT long for me to explain to them how wrong they were.

Posted by: Narce on March 9, 2009 03:10 PM

Geh, I think I'm still tired from my first day of school since we lost an hour. For lack of an edit button, change my entire 2nd sentence to "I mean, when I was in elementary school, a couple kids in my class might have said stupid things like that, but I don't think it ever took me THAT long for me to explain to them how wrong they were" in your minds, please.

Bleh.

I love it!

Posted by: Maria '13 on March 9, 2009 03:13 PM

O_O

That is truly amazing. Just when you think it can't get worse, Verizon does their math wrong and (incidentally) charges you too much.

Posted by: Pam on March 9, 2009 03:18 PM

LMAO....hahahahahahahahahaha this is hilarious..."I'm not a mathematician..."

Posted by: Phil on March 9, 2009 03:25 PM

Superb!

Posted by: Dhvanit on March 9, 2009 03:28 PM

I don't get the difference.??

Posted by: Harvard '10 on March 9, 2009 03:29 PM

"It's a matter of opinion" [that $0.002 = 0.002ยข] - Verizon manager

Honestly, she's probably psychology major. No offense to psychology majors.

I don't like Verizon Wireless very much, even though father dearest works for VZ telecom... On their newer WM smartphones (samsung i900, i770, HTC touch) they force you into a data plan -- 30$/month. Over 2 years, that's over 700$. You can't cancel the data plan. The phone has Wi-Fi, I don't want to pay for 3G internet...

They claim the phone "won't work" without 3G data, even though you can deactivate the phone and still use Wi-Fi and WM. FML.

I'm with Tim. There's also the thing that they claim to provide the most coverage, but I can never get a good signal anywhere in my town.

This just makes me laugh oh so much :)

And Harvard '10, the difference between $.002 and .002 cents is that .002 cents would be equal to $.00002. Because it's .002($0.01). So the guy should actually only be paying approximately $.70 instead of the ludicrous $70.
But that's Verizon for ya haha :) If anything else, they provide good entertainment.

Posted by: Cayla on March 9, 2009 04:07 PM

well i like the difference more when lincoln is on the paper bank-note, not the coin

Posted by: comboy on March 9, 2009 04:22 PM

omg... how thick can you be? seriously, what amazes me is that two of the people there both the employee and the manager could not understand what he is saying! like come on. And then she says its an opinion???

1+1 = 2

Its not an opinion, its a statement!

How can you even become a manager when you do not even know the difference between cents and dollars.

anyway im rambling on...

Posted by: Fouad on March 9, 2009 04:51 PM

Actually, it's an extreme application of Godel's Incompleteness Theorem...

Posted by: oneofthemany13hopefuls on March 9, 2009 04:53 PM

He probably should have tried them at different time...they didn't sound very happy or awake. I know I can't tell the difference between .002 cents and .002 dollars when I'm really tired.

Question: Why do schools require Algebra 2 even though the vast majority of people will never need it.

My theory: To leave enough buffer room so that as you slowly forget how to do math you might remember the difference between $.002 and .002 cents. So much for that theory.

Posted by: Matt A. on March 9, 2009 05:22 PM

Question: Why do you have to take English all the way through college?

My theory: So you might know enough English to remember to include question marks appropriately. D'oh!!! There goes that one too.

I'm dying to know the follow up. Did this guy ever find anyone at Verizon able to use a calculator and give him his refund?

Posted by: MIT Parent on March 9, 2009 05:26 PM

that video changed my life aha!

Posted by: Han on March 9, 2009 05:33 PM

old.

There can only be one appropriate response to this.

*headdesk*

Posted by: Piper '12 on March 9, 2009 05:37 PM

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that is epic.

Posted by: Javal on March 9, 2009 07:00 PM

I would hate to be the guy trying to explain the difference between dollars and cents. I mean, really?! How do you even begin to explain something like that to someone past grade 3? And the "that's your opinion" bit - since when is basic math an opinion? I guess if it's my opinion that 1+1=3, it's perfectly legit, right?!

*headdesk* seconded

Posted by: Kim '13 on March 9, 2009 08:33 PM

I feel obligated to sympathize with the caller. I would hate to be in his position. It was a good idea to put it up though.

I love America =)

Posted by: Jesse on March 10, 2009 12:00 AM

Oh god! That's mindblowing.

Though he could've tried stating that .002 dollars is equal to .2 cents, to hammer it into them.

But how can anyone mess up something like that?!

"I'm not a mathematician"

ROFL

Posted by: Muhammad on March 10, 2009 06:33 AM

Oh man. Sad. Painful.

Posted by: Aditya on March 10, 2009 09:30 AM

LOL @ "Do you recognize that there is a difference between one dollar and one cent?"
Lady: "Yes"

Then how on EARTH can she NOT get the difference between $0.002 and 0.002 cents??? Hahhah that is pretty stupid.

Posted by: Anonymous on March 10, 2009 09:32 AM

Guy:"Do you agree that there is a difference between a dollar and a cent?"
Operator:"Yes..."
....
"Do you agree therefore agree that there is a difference between .002 dollars and .002 cents?"
Operator:"Umm, no."

LMAO!

I honestly do not know what i would have done in that situation. what can you do?

Posted by: Tim on March 10, 2009 09:26 PM

Is the post from harvard '10 a joke?

Posted by: anonymous on March 10, 2009 09:28 PM

-.-" Of course it's a joke. As MIT students love to do, he's making fun of the brick down the street.

Woah. I don't know what to say. This is like one of those times when you drink Slurpee too fast and your brain just freezes over. I am lost for words.
