"I'm going to be on the radio -- Thursday 6:00 WMBR"

Hey all!

I am going to be on WMBR's Dinnertime Sampler this Thursday from 6:00 - 7:00. WMBR is MIT's radio station, and as a student you can become a member and broadcast your own radio show.

Dinnertime Sampler is a weekly show in which MIT student Sally Peach interviews a different faculty or staff member every week and they play their favorite music.

Please tune in and support it (you can find the program streaming on your internet browser at http://wmbr.org/ or on your FM dial in Boston at 88.1fm.

Since the station streams live 24 hours(ish) a day, even if you aren't in Boston, you have no reason not to tune in!!!

For the show, I've decided to do a "Video Killed the Radio Star" theme, talking about the birth of MTV and the impact of music videos on music and vice versa. As a preview, I have posted links to the songs/videos I am going to be discussing.

Song #1 to kick off the show -- "Video Killed the Radio Star", The Buggles, 1979

Song #2, "Don't You Want Me Baby", The Human League, 1981

Song #3, "Be Good Johnny" by Men At Work, 1982

Song #4, "Safety Dance' by Men Without Hats, 1982

Song #5, "Don't Go" by Yaz, 1982

Song #6, "Total Eclipse of the Heart", Bonnie Tyler, 1983

#7, "Our House", Madness, 1983

#8, "Yo Little Brother", Nolan Thomas, 1984

#9, "Forever Young", Alphaville, 1984

#10 "The Reflex", Duran Duran, 1984

#11 "Relax", Frankie Goes to Hollywood, 1985

MTV Banned Version (some brief nudity):

MTV Cut Version (feat. live performance)

MTV Approved Version:

"Body Double" Movie Tie-In Version:

Mashed-Up Version (feat. highlights from all versions):

#12 "Take on Me", a-ha, 1985 (a truly classic video)

#13 "Some People", Beloius Some, 1985

#14 "Money's Too Tight", Simply Red, 1985

#15 "Running Up That Hill", Kate Bush, 1985

#16 "19"", Paul Hardcastle, 1985

And, for some ironic humor to round out the show, #17 is "1985" by Bowling for Soup, 2004.

Tune in! I hope you enjoy!

First post. Darn, I wish I could listen, but I don't think that I can get that station here, guess I'll just have to guess at what it'll be like. Awesome topic too, sounds like it'd be real interesting.

all shows on wmbr actually stream live at wmbr.org, click at the top right corner to listen live. shows are also archived as soon as they end, found under archives :)

also, look for wmbr at the activities fair to sign up for a 30-min slot later that night, live on the air! it's a ton of fun to try, and you will be blown away by the amount of music at your disposal in the station.

woohoo wmbr! "the leftmost station on your dial"

Ahh, so they are archived. lol I realized what I said after I clicked the post button. Glad to hear that I can listen to it later, since I don't think I'll be able to make it to a computer Thursday. I hope my corny computer will be able to download it.

Peach '09 hosts Dinnertime Sampler! It's a great show.

Also, the sheer amount of 80s music here makes me insanely happy. I actually played two of these songs on my show on Sunday.

WMBR is awesome! Prefrosh should sign up for on-air slots during CPW!

Hey Uncle Daniel,

I'll definitely be listening in! Can't wait! :)

Love, Elana

P.S. I've always loved the song "Take On Me," but the video just adds 14309583 more reasons to love it!!
