"Enigma Gold Star Winners!"
To follow up on this entry...
Thanks for playing Engima Wrapped In A Riddle! Don, tell them what they've won.

Wow! I am impressed by how many of you met the challenge. Initially we had planned to only award one winner, but by the list you can see we are feeling the holiday cheer! The following 20 individuals will get the gold star.
If you are listed below, email me (bgnance at mit) your complete name and mailing address and we will send you your gold star. (Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.)

(Please note that comments are closed after 30 days to reduce spam.)My guess is most people would be happier with an acceptance letter to MIT ;) Cool prizes though.

Coooool! Sweet prize. Nice job!

Ooh, shiny. =P Congrats to all the winners!
"Please hold all applause until all winners have come to the stage..." Wow, that brings back so many memories from other competitions - and high-school graduation, for that matter. No one ever followed that rule.

Sweet I won! Thank you very much Bryan!
Posted by: Kevin X on December 17, 2007 04:59 PM
Thanks Bryan.
Shouldn't that be 21 individuals, 1 first place and 20 second place winners?

So much for getting it along with my acceptance tube :) I'm excited to have something to sustain me on my long wait until March, they look really cool!

Isn't one of these stars on the desk of the professor in the movie Good Will Hunting?

I have some experience with hacking in my home town. Do you think it is wise to include this information in my "tell us more about you" section of the application or does it seem too unprofessional. Anyone PLEASE HELP!!! IOW: Will it hurt me or help me.

@Anonymous (the first one)
yes, Mr. Kostick's website mentions a six-axis appearing in Good Will Hunting on the stars page. (Its enough to make me wish I had been quicker on the uptake and earned a six-axis .. even though the tetraxis is awesome in its own right and I am supper happy to get one ^_^)

Thanks Bryan.
'Extended, really long and annoying drum roll', but never annoying to me. I am excited by the drum.
I am addicted to reading your entries and enjoy the drama in them.
=P Congrats to all the winners!

"commented to give his prize to Melis"
LOL. Doesn't that defeat the point of winning the prize? (seems like the star is more of a trophy than a prize)
Posted by: Anonymus on December 18, 2007 05:15 AM
Sweet prize! Next time I'll try myself too :)

@Anonymous Hometown Hacker - If it's part of who you are, feel free to include it in the application. We're not supposed to be professionals yet, we're just kids! It won't make or break your application, but if you feel it's important enough for the admissions committee to hear so they can understand you better, by all means include it.

No way, did anybody watch Jeopardy tonight? The final jeopardy question was 'what are pringles' and the answer called them hyperbolic parabaloids! I immediately thought of this...
Posted by: Anonymous on December 20, 2007 08:08 PM
LOL, hyperbolic parabaloids. That's something I can use to annoy a few people. "Buy me some of those hyperbolic parabaloids"

Good Evening All,
Today I mailed tetraxis to 13 of the 21 winners. Shame on you if are a winner and have not contacted me to get your loot.
Yes anonymous, you did see these stars in Good Will Hunting and I did see Final Jeopardy the other evening... It's the first time that I got FJ right in quite some time.
Enjoy your winnings!

I got mine yesterday - it's pretty cool, but it completely confused my parents :) They suggested using it to hold baseballs or something.
Posted by: Karen on December 25, 2007 01:29 PM
Hey there, just got mine today. Thank you very much! Just like Karen, my parents were very confused, but it's a nice holiday gift =D

I was looking at the pictures of the stars on John's website, and I find them anything but confusing. Just the opposite. It's fascinating the way the constructions look so simple and low-tech, yet they balance themselves into such well-defined, familiar shapes. If I won one, I'd probably hang it from a string in my window, or just spin it the way the little kid in the video is demonstrating. It's cool the way they fold up.
