"And the winners are..."
A few weeks ago I sent out the call for new bloggers. We had quite a few responses (28) from incoming freshmen (25) and upperclassmen (3). I wish I could say that most were awful and we had an easy time deciding who to invite into the elite ranks. Unfortunately that would be a lie, and I'm still disappointed that we couldn't find a place for more of the talented people who applied. If Blogger selection was any indication of what the Admissions application reading process will be like I can tell you the thought emotionally and physically exhausts me.
We didn't have any easily-shared application questions like LOLcats or YouTube videos this year. That's just as well since Chris Peterson has a hatred of LOLcats that borders on anaphylactic. Don't believe me? Just listen as I post this:

I bet you can hear his eyes rolling in disgust (another little-known Chris trait: noisy eyes*).
With the help of our senior bloggers, selected admissions staff, many hours of review, two intense sessions of deliberation, and one large pizza, we were able to narrow our list to the magic number of bloggers.
So without further lamentation or LOLcat shenanigans, please help me welcome the new student bloggers!
Celena C. '12
Cam T. '13
Hamsika C. '13
Jenny X. '13
Marcela R. '13
And don't forget our returning upperclassmen (they won't let you forget, but that's not the point):
Kim D. '09
Cristen C. '10
Jess K. '10
Keri G. '10
Paul B. '11
Chris S. '11
Snively '11
Chris M. '12
Shannon M. '12
Yan Z. '12
Ahmed H. '12 will be joining our Blogger Alums, though he promises to keep us up to date with occasional posts as he continues his own journey through MIT.
I'm looking forward to a year of joyriding along with the bloggers we already know and seeing where our new voices take things. For our part, the Admissions staff plan to keep pushing the technology behind the website, giving our bloggers more and shinier tools, gadgets, gizmos, and (occasionally) doodads to share life at MIT in new ways.
* This is not actually true. I don't really know if Chris P.'s eyes are noisy, or for that matter, what an average amount of eye noise should be. I bet you'll be thinking about it all day when you talk to people, though; staring at their eyes wondering if you can hear them. You're welcome :)

So this is the second year with four bloggers per class year right? Why the increase from 3 to 4?

Congratulations to all the new bloggers!! :D Have funnn!

You may want to change that from "will be joining" to "won't be joining" so there is no confusion about Ahmed. Looking forward to his occassional updates.
Congrats to the new bloggers!
Possibly changed from 3 to 4 bloggers because once in awhile there is a blogger who doesn't blog for 3 or 4 months like one of the '12s. Maybe the new bloggers will post as frequently as some of the other '12s (and alums) who do such a nice job!

Thanks for that. Now I won't be able to stop thinking about strange eye noises for the next week...
I can't wait for the new bloggers to start writing! :)

@Olivia
hi :) Let's be merciful to Dave's blog this time ;D
Congratulations to the new/returning bloggers. I shall follow thy writings obssesively.

@Nicholas
Are you sure it's thy? I may be a tad rusty on my olde english, but isn't thy usually singular? In fact...come to think of it, might it not be 'thine?'
:P
Posted by: Elias ('14?) on August 27, 2009 09:51 PM
@Elias
Well I'm no expert on middle english, so I probably got it wrong. By the way it's middle english, old english (according to the internet)would be þīn. The correct middle english would be thine (which is derived from the old english þīn)
so let me try again (ahem)...
I shall follow thine writings obssesively, and surely thine writings shalt please me greatly.

....eeerrrr pleaseth (?) me greatly? I don't know :D
Posted by: Nicholas on August 27, 2009 10:32 PM
@Nicholas
I'm pretty sure it's not thine, that would be before a vowel. But anyway as far as I know Elias is right, thy and thine would both be singular.

@Nicholas, Elias, Ellen
According to this handy table:
http://www.haverford.edu/engl/chaucer/grammar.htm
The correct possessive adjective, in this case, is "ye."
