"While You Wait..."
For those who don't yet know, two important, possibly life-shattering announcements:
1. MIT decisions will be released online at noon this Saturday, March 15 (Pi Day + 1). Best of luck to all of you!
2. Super Smash Brothers Brawl, possibly the most anticipated game of 2008, came out today.
Can I just say w00t?
In commemoration of this momentous event, with a nod towards MIT gamers everywhere, late last night hackers hung iconic symbols and emblems from the Super Smash Brothers series throughout Lobby 7. Although I've yet to see the hack for myself, as I've been working in my room all morning (having an 8.022 p-set due tomorrow will do that to you), photographer-extraordinaire Eric Schmiedl '09 was on the scene as usual and has graciously agreed to let me share his photos with you.
With no further ado...
Poke Balls, Item Boxes, and Heart Containers - oh my!

I can has banana?

Mario greets those entering the Infinite Corridor.

On a related note, I've received word that some of my fraternity brothers have acquired not just one but TWO copies of Brawl. Perhaps I'll be taking a break from my p-set later on...until then, you can find me solving problems of current density, dielectrics, RC circuits, and all sorts of other physics fun.
Just remember - six more days!

I would, but I don't have a Wii. Now I'll have to face this long week without brawl.

6 days :/
Posted by: Manou on March 9, 2008 01:54 PM
Sorry Leko lol.
Yeah, Brawl has lived up to all of the hype. I've only played it for like 5 hours total so far. But alas, I have a lot of work to do.

Foxtrot also had a feature on it today.
Posted by: Calvin on March 9, 2008 02:05 PM
My little brother's headed over to his friend's house to play Brawl today...while I study for the Chemistry Olympiad :)
Oh, to be a sophmore again!
Posted by: Karen on March 9, 2008 02:43 PM
Ack! My copy of brawl is remaining wrapped until I finish this paper :P
However, I would definitely refute the statement that Brawl is the most anticipated game of 2008, when SPORE MAY YET BE COMING OUT! *cross fingers*
Posted by: bunny on March 9, 2008 02:45 PM
Spore, Star Craft 2, the PC will be feeling good soon.
Posted by: Laser on March 9, 2008 02:54 PM
bunny/Laser - Good call. 2008 is yet young.
For the record, I am a diehard Starcraft/Blizzard fan and would absolutely love for Starcraft 2 to come out this year (preferably during the summer when I'm not as busy ^_^). But Blizzard being Blizzard, who knows?
Posted by: Paul on March 9, 2008 03:00 PM
Yep that pretty much sums up everything I've been waiting for: MIT decision, and (more importantly) Brawl ;)
Needless to say I got it at midnight after pre-ordering last July, and have been playing until now.
As for Spore...the 2008 release date is doubtful...but we can still hope :)

Yeah, brawl!! I can't wait until JR gets his copy. I'll be playing even more than I do now.
Posted by: Alvin on March 9, 2008 03:13 PM
For those who don't know, Alvin and JR are freshman friends of mine who also live in Simmons. You may have seen JR comment on my blog before... ;)

Hahaha ohhh wow. Giant pokeball for the win? :D
Aww I really want to play Brawl. -scavenges for money-
Posted by: Stephany on March 9, 2008 03:58 PM
Yeah, knowing Blizzard, SC2 will come out Summer 2009. :(
Time to play Brawl, at least. :)
Posted by: Laser on March 9, 2008 04:46 PM
Neither of those things are life-shattering. Lies!!!

This is truly the best hack yet ! Along with the Halo one.
All we need now is a hack about DMC4 and MIT will be perfect !
Posted by: Isshak on March 9, 2008 05:17 PM
Sonic and ROBOT are AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Final Smash is fun but it gets pretty dumb after a while because anyone who gets the smash ball has a huge advantage over the rest
Still, it's pretty cool
ROBOT OWNS!!!!!

The Ides of March...Oh man...
Posted by: Priya on March 9, 2008 06:34 PM
@ Laser
I hope SCII comes out this year. It looks amazing so far.
But I guess in the meantime, I have Brawl. And Ocarina of Time, which I've recently revisited. Ah, nostalgia...
Posted by: Archon on March 9, 2008 07:04 PM
Ok, probably not the best place to admit this, but I use all my study periods at school plus lunch to play melee. Seniors have a lounge, and there's a gamecube...and well we just play smash a lot! So I've been practicing for this day for months ;)
Posted by: DHowdy on March 9, 2008 07:53 PM
DHowdy, YOU ARE SO LUCKY.
Posted by: Laser on March 9, 2008 07:58 PM
Ocarina of time is the best game of all time
Posted by: Leko on March 9, 2008 10:14 PM
The Wii in my hall's lounge was just shut off for the first time in over 20 hours.
Posted by: ShawnOfAwesome '11 on March 9, 2008 11:07 PM
Is it just me or do those pictures look really cartoony? It took a while to convince myself that they were real.
Posted by: Anonymous on March 10, 2008 01:03 AM
Ahh I want to play Brawl so badly, but the Wiis in Chile are too expensive..
Great to see everyone being productive :P
Posted by: Hyun Jin on March 10, 2008 02:22 AM
Cool!!

OMG Paul! OMG! This Saturday.. My vocabulary has restricted itself to only these - MIT - Decision - Saturday. OMG OMG
Posted by: Shruthi on March 10, 2008 06:46 AM
I love the mario games!
Posted by: Aakriti on March 10, 2008 07:05 AM
@Anonymous: Well, considering they are based off of video game items, it kinda makes sense that they would look cartoony. I think that's likely what they were going for when they made it.

Nice to see blogging about Brawl! Got mine at midnight.
