"And It's Over!"
Congratulations to the Evil Midnight Bombers What Bomb at Midnight. They found the Mystery Hunt Coin at 8:28 PM tonight. They're a great team of MIT alums; lots of really smart people. They actually won the hunt 2 years ago (and I think 2 years before that...), so the Hunt last year was written by them, and they'll be writing next year's hunt too, so it should be a good year.

Wow -- that's amazing that they did it so quickly! (I think at least -- is there a record for the most quickly resolved mystery hunt?)

Priya, you can check previous mystery hunts as well as more information on them here:
Enjoy!

Congratulations to them! I'm definitely impressed that they solved it in only two days, and I'm excited to see what they come up with next year - I *really* liked last year's Hunt. Hopefully next year I'll be at MIT doing it with everyone else :)

I heard this year's hunt was longer than usual! Don't take my word for it, though. I haven't participated in one yet.

Actually, this mystery hunt lasted much longer than expected (9 hours at least). It would have lasted much longer if HQ hadn't started flinging us help (they realized it could be a week-long hunt). Another day and I think a large chunk of our team would have gotten ill due to lack of sleep.

Dying for answers!

just a suggestion.. snively..since u had a 115 member team..wudnt it have been better to make a 30 member team rummaging thru the campus looking for the coin? maybe it's not legit..but wrth a try..isnt it?

@ nihar
Fourth floor of building 24......
Posted by: Anion on January 21, 2008 04:07 AM
So somehow all the answers added up to point at that place?? Wow! Puzzles like that can only be crafted by people at MIT.

@ Snively:
It must have been great to be on a mystery hunting team, so you won't mind not getting sleep! I appreciate everyone's motivation. :)

hey.. congrats.. i got a feel of how tuff it must've been when i read bryan's blog.. and snively's post.. can we have answers for those atleast?

@ Smarty Pants:
The coin is generally located in a place where you won't just randomly "bump" into it. Thus, hunting for the coin even with a 30-person team on the ENTIRE MIT campus is like searching for a needle in a haystack, literally, and a haystack the size of a farm, that is.

By the way, what was the answer to Odd one Out ? I'm curious...

Ya me too. Congratulations!!!! You all enjoyed a lot. Congrats for that too! IAP rocks!

@Alexander -
Yes, I swear I'm still working on it. One of the things I wanted to do over IAP was actually finish the shelves, and I want to try and wait until I do finish before blogging it.
@Isshak -
The answer is UNCLE SAM - I don't know how you get to it, though. I'm talking to some people from the Random team, and they think they didn't solve it directly; they back-solved it knowing the answer to the meta-puzzle.
(Has anyone explained this? The structure of Mystery Hunt is typically that the answers to the puzzles from a round and some of the other information they give you come together to form a meta-puzzle, which is typically how you unlock the next round of puzzles, or something like that)
Posted by: Evan on January 21, 2008 03:35 PM
Uncle Sam ???? Wow I wonder what information and meta puzzle they had... Thanks Evan !
And I am waiting for your part II too ! ^^

I didn't know you were an MIT blogger (I have discovered a lot of interesting things this IAP that I don't have time to notice during the school year!) Yay for BC bloggers!
