Looks great!
However.. a couple of things stick out just a bit. The drop shadow underneath the paper is not quite right. At the lower left corner, I think the drop shadow should start slightly to the right, not directly in line with the paper. At the top right, the drop shadow should start a little bit farther down.
I also noticed that the wood tile that was used for the background image repeats a bit too quickly, vertically. A slightly taller image might look a bit better.
Finally, I think that the drop-down menus should either be a slightly different color, or have a slight border around them. For the "Bills" and "Financial Aid" menus, the menu touches the blue area of the page, and it doesn't look right because they appear to blend together. Also, at the lower portion of the larger menus, there is no divider at all between the links, which is slightly awkward, in my opinion. (For example, under "Financial Aid", between "special circumstances" and "Financial aid statistics")
Those were the only things that I noticed though. In general, the page looks absolutely excellent to me! Can't wait to use it! :-)

Ah.. one more minor detail that isn't really important, but would be nice to see fixed. First, click and hold a top menu button on this page. Then, pretend that you decided that you'd rather not go to that page, so you drag your mouse off of the button before releasing. This works as expected on this web page, but not on your financial aid page.
Again, just a minor detail, but still something that would make it a tiny bit better!

Hmm, looks posh. I will forward it along to my 14 year old sister so she can test it for usability; I'll get back to with my own perspective in a little bit.

I have a problem here........
I've been trying to download the "2007-2008 College Board International Student Financial Aid Application" form from the "Prospective freshmen – International Students" page but everytime it is the same page instead of the PDF file that is popped out.
I could access this file before, and have a copy of my own so it's not really a problem for me. But just wondering if there's any international student who haven't been able to do so and are panicking
thanx a lot!

Very nice! Much better.
I haven't explored everything thoroughly yet, but in the glossary, when entries say "see such-and-such", it would be nice to have them link to such-and-such, instead of making us go find it for ourselves.
And, on the pages under web.mit.edu/sfs/afford/ there is a sidebar that says "Apply for MIT Financial Aid" and is filled with, er, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..." :) I found it rather amusing, actually, so you could leave it if you like.
Other than that, I like it a lot. Very slick. And it has the same colorful feel that mitadmissions.org does. And maybe that MIT in general does. :)

Hi, I have a question about actual financial aid. I can't qualify for need-based aid, so I was looking at the Loans section of the website, and under Student Loans Not Based on Need it lists Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, but in the description one of the steps listed is "complete MIT's financial aid application process"; this step is not listed for other non-need-based loans. So my question is, if I know I can't qualify for aid from MIT, is there any reason I would need to fill out the financial aid application anyway?
Thanks.

Hey, Daniel. My mom is currently unemployed. I'm from Peru and she does not file any taxes. Do I have to fill a special form to prove she is unemployed?

Yes, the International students Financial Aid Form 2007-2008 for enrolled students is STILL not downloading. Could you correct this quickly, as it is causing a lot of inconvinience for my family.

Thanks for the great comments so far! Keep them up!!
We think we have identified the problem with the International Application and it should be fixed in the next hour or two. In the meantime, if your need is urgent, you can link to my Athena folder where I have stored the document in the meatime. (The link is http://web.mit.edu/barkowit/www/money/isfaa.pdf ).

I'm sorry to start a completely new topic:
I am an international applicant, therefore I have to send a translated copy of the most recent tax form..
What if my parents do not agree to fill in the information, as they are not convinced of data security ..and other reasons?
I know, I can't afford MIT with the money my parents going to give me(its as much as my sister and my brothers got- the sum is equal to the governemantal financial aid- BaFög in Germany)
A second problem is that my sister and brothers attended collge and graduate school in germany, and they were fully supported by my parents, but my education will be far more expensive- if I would be accepted to MIT, that even if my parents could afford to give me more money than they spent on my brothers and sisters, it would be unfair, so they won't do...
I don't know what to do know...

Hey Monika!
We do need the information your parents provide for us to determine your financial aid. While I understand the concern about data security, please know that we take data security very seriously here and we do what we can to ensure the privacy of your data.
That said, keep in mind that the process by which international students pass information is completely paper driven, so at no point in your relaying of that information to us will it be visible to anyone else.
But we need the data to determine your eligibility. Think of it this way: the financial aid transaction is sort of a quid pro quo. You provide information, we provide money. Without the information, we cannot provide the aid. It is as simple as that.
If you are in a situation where your parents are not able to afford to support you, then our financial aid analysis should bear this out. If your parents are unwilling to support you, then unfortunately we cannot support this. That said, there are occasions (extremely rarely) where we waive a parent or parents, but these are situations where there is abuse, or a complete breakdown in the relationship between parent(s) and student. If this is your case (or anyone else's case) please be in touch with your financial aid officer to discuss a possible appeal.

Thank you, Mr Barkowitz,
no, there is no breakdown, and I am happy about this. I tried to fill in the data in the colegeboard coast calculator(for US students), does the Mit calculates it the same way?

Hi Mr. Barkowitz,
The FinAid website tells us that we can track our financial aid documents through MyMIT Accounts. Yet there is no option for it, so I cannot see if you have received all my documents.
I am an international applicant from India, applying Regular Action for Fall 2007 Undergraduate Admission.
