Congratulations to all the EA admits. Kiss your brains, do the happy dance and go hug your family! I know you feel life is great. MIT is your opportunity to make it even better. I am a mom of an EA for the class of '09. It was a long, wonderfully torturous four years. My son is thriving post graduation from Course 16 (Aero/Astro). Space is the place where he has challenged himself to improve the world. As you drink from the firehose remember to giveback. You will be experiencing one of the most humbling times of your life but it will be so worth it. Good luck to all.

Posted by: cretadni on December 17, 2009 12:40 AM
ACCEPTED! and i have a great story with it too.
I had a basketball game at 7:30 MT time, so that meant i either had to wait until after the game to check, or bring my laptop into the locker room and check right at 7:00.
I brought my laptop into the locker room.
My whole team was watching over my shoulder as i signed in, and then we went out and won the game.
I HAD A GREAT NIGHT!
Congrats to everyone else as well! I look forward to meeting you all!

Dear Prefrosh,
Remember that your coolness level doubles if you break the November rule.
Posted by: Anon on December 17, 2009 02:55 AM
November rule?
Dude, I still don't believe this! I need to print off a copy of the letter or I'll start second-guessing myself at school today!
And, yes, CAPTCHA knows all. ;)
Posted by: VAL '14 on December 17, 2009 05:44 AM
All of the stress from yesterday morning and the excitement from last night is washing over me...it's still incredibly surreal. I hope to meet you guys during CPW! And congrats once again!

Posted by: Zeki '14? on December 17, 2009 07:29 AM
@Anon [most recent one]
On top of our cute prefroshies not knowing what the november rule *is*, I think YOU'RE a little off on its actual definition.
The rule is, "Don't date the prefrosh/frosh until at least November 1 of their freshman year." It only applies to upperclassmen. The prefrosh can still have relationships with each other without anyone minding, and if they get into relationships with upperclassmen, it's the upperclassman's fault, not theirs. There's no way for prefrosh to "break the November rule".

@Pato: It's insane. I can't even believe it sometimes. I carried a printout of my admission letter just so I could check it every once in a while to make sure it was real. I did reality checks (http://www.dreamviews.com/induction.php) quite often too. I got more hugs today than I usually get in a month or two. It's an incredible feeling.

CONGRATULATIONS again!!!=DDDD
Posted by: anonymous on December 18, 2009 06:02 PM
Just wondering, how old are you guys? Some people said that I was deferred because of my age, and I'm just wondering if that's true or they were just trying to make me feel better.
I'm 16 by the way, turning 17 in March.
Posted by: Deferred on December 18, 2009 07:33 PM
@deferred
... well... I'm deferred and also 16, turning 17 in January... so...
But I really don't think age is a factor in decisions
@Annie from Alaska
Really?! thats pretty cool! which school?
Posted by: Upnorth on December 18, 2009 10:40 PM
sooo excited. If only CPW would come sooner!!!
congrats everyone!!
Posted by: kai '14 on December 19, 2009 12:30 AM
Wow...Acceptance into MIT...I thought I'd never see the day.
What really made my day was 1) the acceptance of course, and 2) all my friends and family calling me up to congratulate me. I'm definitely coming here next year!
Ironically, I couldn't really party it up when I got the decision; I had a calc test to study for o_O lol
Posted by: Bryan M on December 19, 2009 12:49 AM
Hey guys! I'm so excited I was admitted, and I can't even believe it! Neither could my parents...
Is anyone else concerned about paying for MIT? The FAFSA calculator told us we're getting no aid, and I've applied to 20+ essay scholarships from the various scholarship websites out there, but because math and science are my strong subject areas and english definitely is not, I have not won a single one of these. $52,000 per year is definitely not a reasonable amount for us to pay however, so I am kind of stressing about this now. I got into my dream school, but the cost is not within reach. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation...
Posted by: Anonymous on December 19, 2009 12:55 AM
@ Up North...
Thanks. :)
I go to West Valley High School in Fairbanks. Or at least I did, today was my last day of high school.
and...
@ Anonymous.
Yeah, my parents are making me apply to other schools because they don't want to pay for MIT. I'm trying to get scholarships too. But its definitely not easy. Hopefully MIT has better financial aid then they advertise. :)
Posted by: Annie '14 on December 19, 2009 02:08 AM
Hey guys! Congratulations to everyone!! I'm so excited to meet you all. My dad's friend is buying me MIT hoodie :) can't wait to get it! And I'm also waiting for the tube to come! When is it coming?? like... next week???
I think this is the only place (except home) I can celebrate myself ... Sadly, none of my friends got into their dream schools (Yale, Duke, Stanford, etc) in the early admissions... I'm scared of going to school now that everyone is so depressed and dying to finish up their essays. Anyone here in the same situation?

I'm just a parent of a child who is inerested in going to MIT in the future. I have been doing a lot of research on this site and it is my understanding that if you are accepted at MIT MIT will make sure you can afford to go. They will give you the money and you don't have to pay it back. Go to the MIT financial aid calculator and get an estimate of what portion they would expect your parents to pay. By all means call or write the admissions office and ask about this before you decide to go to another school just because of cost. It could cost you the same as attending a state school since top tier schools often have more funding. Don't give up your dream yet. Get advice from MIT first.

Hey guys! Congrats to you all! I am from New Jersey and cannot wait to meet you all in the spring!
Has anyone gotten their tube yet? I keep waiting every day for it to show up.
@Anonymous '14 (no question mark!!)
I definitely understand your situation. It's been difficult to celebrate when some of your best and well-deserving friends have been getting deferred and rejected from their early schools. But like I keep telling them, we're all going to end up going to great schools!
To those deferred from MIT- good luck!

Congrats to all who were selected. Thank the good lord for the best Christmas gift that you got for ever. MIT has so much to offer. Make full use of it. You may be swimming in turbulent waters but MIT will take you to unknown islands for you to explore. Good Luck to all of you.

Oh, the much-discussed tubes. I'm hoping to come home tomorrow from school and be greeted with a cardboard cylinder poking out of the mailbox.
@Annie and Jacqueline
Half-Taiwanese as well :)

Congratulations everyone! Can't wait to meet you at CPW!
If you have questions about financial aid, I very much recommend getting in touch with Student Financial Services. Final aid determinations won't go out until March, but SFS can help make sure you understand the process, point you to other sources of finaid, and generally take away some of the stress and confusion.

@ Dave McOwen - MIT Admissions
I am also concerned about money because I didn't indicate that I would apply for financial aid in the application. (I thought the chances were rare without applying for financial aid alone) But now that I am admitted... I realize that I can't go to MIT without money :(
Can I still apply for financial aid? If not... I should reconsider going to MIT next fall.

Its not that my parents can't afford it (not matter how spoiled that sounds, its true.)
Its that they don't want to pay it.
And @ everyone else.....
I'm super excited to get mine!!!

I know it's a little early to be thinking about school supply shopping for college, but what type of calculator should we have as incoming freshmen? My TI-84 has served me well, but it might be time to upgrade.

You didn't get a tube? So sad... maybe it's because you live abroad. I live outside of US too. I am so excited to get a tube, but I guess I won't be getting it either :(

Does anyone know if you can do the 5 year masters program with Chemical Engineering? I've only heard of it for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science so far, but I'm looking into Chemical Engineering.
