Nobel Prize
Every year the Nobel Prize is awarded to a handful of individuals and organizations for achievement in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. Seventy-three former and current members of the MIT community have been awarded the prize since its debut in 1901, including seven current faculty members:

H. Robert Horvitz, Biology (Medicine: 2002)
Wolfgang Ketterle, Physics (Physics: 2001)
Richard Schrock, Chemistry (Chemistry: 2005)
Phillip A. Sharp, Biology (Medicine: 1993)
Samuel Ting, Physics (Physics: 1976)
Susumu Tonegawa, Biology (Medicine: 1987)
Frank Wilczek, Physics (Physics: 2004)

Blackjack Cards
The story of the MIT Blackjack Team has become the stuff of legend (not to mention a bestselling book and Hollywood film). In the mid nineties, a group of students set out to beat the notoriously small odds of Las Vegas casinos. The team had perfected a strategy of card counting, and over several years took home millions of dollars from Vegas blackjack tables.
Dome Hack
MIT’s Great Dome is a favorite target of student pranks (or “hacks” as they’re known around campus). In May 1994, the night before the last day of classes, hackers erected a life-size police cruiser on top of the Great Dome. This iconic hack received international media coverage.
