massachusetts institute of technology freshman admissions portal/community v. 2.0

At face value, my life seems to be a hilariously extended epic fail: I lost the spelling bee in 6th grade on the word "Wednesday," won a drawing contest in first grade but have regressed to stick figures ever since, and nearly failed kindergarten because I refused to hold my scissors the "right way" (I still insist that there is no way to hold scissors correctly).

At some point, though, I must have managed to start doing something right, as during one particularly long shift at PetSmart on December 15 I received a call from MIT admissions letting me know that I got in. After much running around and shouting and my first trip to the East Coast, I packed up my entire life into boxes and took a trip from the quiet city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, though Canada, and all the way to Cambridge. (And to extend the extended epic fail, we even managed to get lost for an hour in the Canadian countryside along the way.)

Consequently, this makes me new here. But in the time that I've been at MIT, I have managed to learn two very important things:
  1. There are many things you can let go of in life, but NEVER let go of the tiller.
  2. Life is much funnier if you're laughing at it.

Beyond those two lessons, I'm not sure how much else I could possibly have to learn here... but get back to me in a semester.
